The Outdoor Studio is designed for children ages 5–8. Activities are thoughtfully adapted to support a range of developmental stages within that age group.

Each day includes:

• Hands-on art or photography project
• Outdoor exploration & movement play
• Reflection timeStructured creative learning lasts approximately 2–3 hours, with the rest of the day including hiking, snack, lunch, and free exploration.

Yes — we are primarily outdoors in natural environments around the Gunnison Valley. We choose locations based on weather, safety, and the weekly theme. Children should come prepared for sun, wind, and changing mountain conditions.

No experience is needed. We teach foundational photography skills in an age-appropriate way. The focus is observation, creativity, and storytelling — not technical perfection.

We will provide guidance on equipment before camp begins. In most cases, simple digital cameras are provided. If your child has a camera they are comfortable using, they are welcome to bring it.

Colorado weather changes quickly. We monitor conditions carefully and adapt locations as needed. Light rain may become part of the learning experience; unsafe conditions will result in adjusted plans as we have many indoor locations we can explore.

Each week connects nature lessons to emotional skills such as patience, teamwork, awareness, and confidence. Through guided reflection, storytelling, and creative work, children learn to identify and express their feelings in healthy ways.

We intentionally keep groups small to maintain safety, connection, and meaningful instruction. Exact ratios will be shared prior to the session. But we do not exceed the licensed amount of 10 to 1.

Yes. Our environment is calm, structured, and supportive. We encourage participation without pressure. Children are invited into activities at their own pace.

Yes. Stewardship is woven into our curriculum. Children learn to respect wildlife, stay on trails when necessary, and care for natural spaces. And also become smokey bear Rangers by the end of Summer!

Spots are limited and filled on a first-come basis.

I take this and the safety of all kids very seriously. I carry a Garmin in reach along with all wilderness first aid supplies. We have a solid emergency protocol and years of experience in the backcountry with kids.
Each day we assess the location and activity and move forward with a solid, safe plan.
